Belgium issues heatwave warning
High temperatures, dry weather expected to continue for another week, according to authorities
BRUSSELS
Belgium on Monday issued a heatwave warning after high temperatures and no precipitation in recent weeks.
The temperature in Brussels – a city known for its cloudy and rainy weather – exceeded 31C degrees (87.8F) at the weekend, according to Belgium's Royal Meteorological Institute.
In the Ardennes region, the country's highest altitude, the temperature was measured at the level of 25-27C degrees (80F).
The institute also issued a yellow code, urging the public to "be careful."
It warned that ozone pollution will also be high.
This alert level serves to inform the public as well as health and personal care professionals to ensure that they take the necessary precautions, especially for people in need of care.
High temperatures and dry weather are expected to continue for at least another week.
