Dutch sprinter Femke Bol broke the world indoor 400-meter record with a time of 49.24 seconds on Sunday.

Bol, 23, improved her record at the Dutch Indoor Championships in Apeldoorn to retain the title on home soil.

"It's a dream come true to run another world record and it's wonderful to have all these Dutch fans enjoying the most beautiful sport in the world," she said.

In 2023, Bol ran 49.26 seconds to smash Jarmila Kratochvilova's world record that the ex-Czech athlete set in 1982.

A 400-meter hurdles specialist, Bol won two gold medals at the 2023 World Championships and a bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, which were held in 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Bol will next head to the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Glasgow on March 1, where she is among the favorites for the title.
