BERLIN

Germany on Wednesday deplored the Israeli killing of a Doctors Without Borders (MSF) staff member in the Gaza Strip.

Humanitarian aid workers should “generally not be a target of war,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Sebastian Fischer said at a news conference in Berlin.

“All parties to the conflict are called upon to adhere to international humanitarian law, which sets out certain regulations,” he added.

Fischer lamented the fact that too many aid workers had been killed in the Gaza war.

Asked specifically if he would condemn the killing of the aid worker, Fischer said he would first have to know the circumstances of what happened.

Doctors Without Borders said a sixth staff member had been killed since the current war broke out on Oct.7.

Fadi Al-Wadiya, 33, was killed while he was biking to work in Gaza City in an attack that killed five others, including three children, according to the international health NGO.

“Killing a healthcare worker while on his way to provide vital medical care to wounded victims of the endless massacres across Gaza is beyond shocking; it's cynical and abhorrent,” Caroline Seguin, MSF operations manager for Palestine, said in a statement.

The charity group said it is seeking to "verify the details of this horrific incident."

As of April 30, the UN reported at least 254 aid workers had been killed in Gaza since Oct. 7, with the UN Relief Agency for Palestine personnel accounting for 188 of the fatalities.​​​​​​​
