Nasdaq, S&P 500 hit new highs

Indexes increase around 0.5%, 0.3%, respectively

ISTANBUL

The Nasdaq and the S&P 500 hit new highs Wednesday after the opening bell on Wall Street.

The S&P 500 rose 15 points, or 0.27%, to a new record of 5,592 at 10.22 a.m. EDT. The Nasdaq, meanwhile, added 90 points, or 0.49%, to hit a new record of 18,520.

The Dow, on the other hand, fell 11 points, or 0.03%, to end the session at 39,280.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, lost 0.64% to 12.43. The 10-year US Treasury yield lost 0.42% to 4.280%.

The dollar index declined 0.08% to 105.04, while the euro rose 0.14% to $1.0827 against the greenback.

Precious metals were in positive territory, with gold rising 0.7% to $2,380 per ounce and silver increasing 0.5% to $30.95.

Oil prices were up around 0.1%, with global benchmark Brent crude at $84.73 and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate at $81.67.
