S&P 500, Nasdaq post best week of 2024

Weekly, S&P gains 4%, Nasdaq rises 5.9%, Dow Jones adds 2.6%

ISTANBUL (AA) - The Nasdaq and the S&P 500 posted their best weekly performances as US stocks closed Friday higher.

The S&P 500 rose 30 points, or 0.54% to finish the day at 5,626. The index gained 4% for the week.

The Nasdaq, meanwhile, added 114 points, or 0.65%, to close Friday at almost 17,694. The tech-heavy index rose 5.9% this week.

The Dow Jones industrial average gained 297 points, or 0.72%, to finish the day at 41,393. The blue-chip index saw a weekly increase of 2.6%.

The VIX volatility index, referred to as the "fear index," fell 3% to 16.56. The 10-year US Treasury yield lost 0.55% to 3.656%.

The US dollar index decreased 0.26% to 101.11, while the euro rose 0.01% against the dollar, trading at $1.1075.

Precious metals were in positive territory, with gold adding 0.85% to $2,585 per ounce and silver increasing 2.85% to $30.72 an ounce.

Oil prices were up around 0.3%, with global benchmark Brent crude at $72.14 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate at $69.27 per barrel.
