LONDON

British chancellor of the exchequer's office in southeastern England was vandalized with graffiti saying "die Tory scum," according to reports on Wednesday.

The incident reported in the local Woking News and Mail took place at Jeremy Hunt's Surrey office on the eve of his spring budget statement.

It came amid concern over MPs safety, while police are investigating after the front door and two windows of the Hunt's local office in Hindhead were defaced.

"Officers were called following reports of criminal damage at a property on Tilford Road in Hindhead, which is believed to have taken place between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. on Monday 4 March," said a spokesperson for Surrey police.

"The criminal damage involved graffiti being sprayed on the windows on the outside of the property. No one was present in the property at the time of the criminal damage," added the spokesperson.

The 57-year-old Conservative MP has been serving as chancellor of the exchequer since October 2022.
