US stocks open Wednesday with losses

Precious metals in red with gold losing 1% to $2,297 per ounce, silver diving 3.1% to $30.31

ISTANBUL

US stock exchanges opened Wednesday with losses.

The Dow Jones was down 161 points, or 0.41%, to 38,950 at 9.33 a.m. EDT. (1333GMT).

The S&P 500, meanwhile, fell 13 points, or 0.25%, to 5,455. The Nasdaq lost 22 points, or 0.13%, to 17,695. The two indexes closed with gains on Tuesday to end their three-day losing streaks.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, rose 2.6% to 13.17. The 10-year US Treasury yield increased 1.7% to 4.309%.

The dollar index added 0.41% to 106.04, while the euro lost 0.6% to $1.0671 against the greenback.

Precious metals were in the red, with gold losing 1% to $2,297 per ounce and silver diving 3.1% to $30.31.

Oil prices were up around 0.05%, with global benchmark Brent crude at $84.31 and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate at $80.84.
